The Sriniketan Institute of Rural Reconstruction was set up by
Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore in 1921 at Sriniketan of Birbhum district,
West Bengal. Number of villages, initially adopted: A group of eight
villages was in the centre of the programme. Major activities:
Organization of health cooperative, Agricultural Demonstration, Supply of
better seed and manure, improvement of cottage industries, training centres for
handcrafts.
Vratachari Movement‘: He started a youth movement,
aiming the overall development of the youths. Shiksha Satra‟: He
initiated a school for educating village boys and girls on new lines and
production of literature for neo literates.
