BRIEF CONCEPT
Empowerment means to increase the economic, social,
political, educational, gender and spiritual strength of a marginalized entity
or entities. It is a process of obtaining or creating opportunities for those
marginalized people. Women empowerment refers to create such a positive
environment where they can take independent breath in the fresh air. They can
take decisions for their personal as well as social development in general.
Empowerment is that process which helps women to take participation in decision
making which in turn helps them to achieve equality with men in various
spheres.
REALITY
Women empowerment is a very burning
and effective foot step for development of woman as well as society. Present
days in this male dominated society women empowerment is a blessing to the
backward women of our country. But there is no such good work which needs not
to face any challenges. So women empowerment also has to face lots of obstacles
issues and challenges. It is very dishearten that the phrase 'empowerment of
women' is considered like just a phrase in the multistage process of giving
women what they deserve by the upper hand men. The very mention about
'empowerment' clearly indicates the men enjoy in the social structure.
HISTORICAL REALITY
Present
day in the country like India, where it is a curse to born as a girl child in
most of the states, there the phrase 'Women empowerment' is become ridiculous
aspect. In our so called civilized society, they have been confined to hearth
and home. In the ancient India we same women had enjoyed a privileged position.
But with the coming up Brahmin traditions and with the advent of Islam they
were further pushed into the background and they have lost their status. They
were left secluded, devitalized and sheltered. These practices slowly turned
into customs later which have been become tradition. Now they have to fight for
regain their own respect. Even, as they are becoming aware for their rights and
demands, the violence and crime against women is on the increase. It is very
difficult to appreciate the development of women to illiterate man as well as
to an extremely educated, cultural man. Historically, most of the progress
related to woman empowerment comes from women themselves.
WHY WOMEN EMPOWERMENT?
Till
today in our society, the smile become invisible from the face of the family
members when a girl child born. Most of the family don't want girl child due to
rescue their race. It causes destroy of girl fetus and killing of girl child.
It is one of the burning problems of India where a girl child have to fight for
her right to living. Women
constitute almost 50% of the world’s population but India has shown
disproportionate sex ratio whereby female’s population has been comparatively
lower than males. In such a society where the sex ratio is 940(Census 2011) there to speak about women
empowerment is just a quackery.
The difference between educational status of male and
female indicate a sharp finger to the empowerment of women. In India the
educational status of female (65.46% as
per census 2011) is very low than male (82.14 as
per census 2011).
Here in the poor parents force and their girl children to leave school after
primary sections.
There it seems very difficult to return that educational
rights to those girls. According to those families a girl does not need to
become educated because she has to get marry a boy has to become educated
because he has to look after his family. Until these type of narrow thinking
doesn't changed any kind of empowerment doesn't work.
In
today's India the violence against woman has become recklessly increased. The
women are reduced to the mere household obligations and with this the Indian
society plunged into abysmal darkness. The woman who the mother of this society
most of the time become victim of sexual pleasure. The cases of sexual
harassment, rape have become much more increased in 2014. This cases of
violence is not centred in the outside but it used to take place in our house
also. According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the ratio of sexually
abuse girl child by her family member is go out of hundred. Yes, it is true
that many girls under the age of 13 have to face this type of disrespectful
situation in her house. The physical, sexual, psychological violence strikes
women in epidemic proportions worldwide. It crosses every social and economic
class, every religion, race and ethnicity. Not only does it threaten women's
health and their social and economic well being, violence also thwarts global
efforts to reduce poverty. It arises a big question i.e. which is the place
where a woman will be safe? The narrow minded man doesn’t respect woman they
just look her as a body to enjoy. The incident of Delhi or Parkstreet
are the real example of the worst situation of women. And our so called public
leader who speak about the women empowerment, just give their master comment by
saying 'in the little age boys use to do such naughty things' but they forgot,
they are the child of any mother who is also an woman. As now a day in the
ritual areas the woman don't have the right to take decision about the
marriage, so she has to marry either with heartily or not. And in 70% cases
these woman are raped by her so called husband. In school, work place, she has
to face harassment for the sex differences violence against women is a
worldwide. Yet still hidden problem sexual violence has become a deep part of
our cultures and our lives. According to figures released by
the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), the total number of rape cases
reported in India has gone up to 33,707 in 2013 from 24,923 in 2012 and
Ninety-two women were raped on an average every day in India. So, none the big
question is the phrase 'Women empowerment' will beneficial to women? In social
field women are suppressed domestically and do not enjoy respectable position.
They are not regarded as intelligent and powerful enough as men.
The main thing
is that, the men have to understand that this society is not for only them. Men
and woman both have right to equality. When a woman can travel safely in night
also when she doesn't face any kind of harassment due to sex, when all the girl
child will be able to rise smile in the face of her family and most important
will be spreads its light without any challenges.
Yes
there is many laws for woman but the gap between what is written in the laws
and the reality in the field won't reduce unless the mentalities change. In
such situation, woman are in the best position to influence these mentalities
by fighting for their rights. Society must take initiative to create a climate
in which there is no gender discrimination and Women have full opportunities of
Self decision making and participating in the Social, Political and Economic
life of the Country with a sense of equality. It touches on women’s sense of
self-worth and social identity , their
willingness and ability to question their subordinate
status and identity, their capacity to exercise strategic control over their
own lives and their ability to participate on equal terms with men in reshaping
the societies in which they live in ways that contribute to a more just and
democratic distribution of power and possibilities.
CONCLUSION
Until we can’t change our thinking
about women, all the approaches, laws cannot be successful. When we can see
women with respect, equality then the approaches, activities and the vision of
women empowerment will be successful. Most importantly the word women
empowerment needs not be mentioned further, because the word, ‘women’ will
always complements itself in future.
“Woman has suffered for eons, and that has given her infinite patience and infinite perseverance.”
“It is very difficult to
understand why in this country so much difference is made between men and
women, whereas the Vedanta declares that one and the same conscious Self is
present in all beings. You always criticise the women, but say what have you
done for their uplift?
Writing down Smritis etc., and binding them by hard
rules, the men have turned the women into mere manufacturing machines! If you
do not raise the women, who are the living embodiment of the Divine Mother,
don’t think that you have any other way to rise.”
“In what scriptures do you
find statements that women are not competent for knowledge and devotion? In the
period of degradation, when the priests made other castes incompetent for the
study of the Vedas, they deprived the women also of all their rights. Otherwise
you will find that in the Vedic or Upanishadic age Maitreyi, Gârgi, and other
ladies of revered memory have taken the places of Rishis through their skill in
discussing about Brahman. In an assembly of a thousand Brahmanas who were all
erudite in the Vedas, Gargi boldly challenged Yâjnavalkya in a discussion about
Brahman. Since such ideal women were entitled to spiritual knowledge, why shall
not the women have the same privilege now? What has happened once can certainly
happen again. History repeats itself. All nations have attained greatness by
paying proper respect to women. That country and that nation which do not
respect women have never become great, nor will ever be in future. The principal
reason why your race has so much degenerated is that you have no respect for
these living images of Shakti. Manu says, “Where women are respected, there the
gods delight; and where they are not, there all works and efforts come to
naught.” (Manu, III. 56.) There is no hope of rise for that family or country
where there is no estimation of women, where they live in sadness. For this
reason, they have to be raised first; and an ideal Math has to be started for
them.”
“The idea of perfect womanhood is perfect
independence.”“Women will work out their destinies—much better, too, than men can ever do for them. All the mischief to women has come because men undertook to shape the destiny of women.”
“Educate your women first and leave them to themselves; then they will tell you what reforms are necessary for them. In matters concerning them, who are you?”
