Krishika Devo Bhava, meaning
“May the farmer be your God” is the voice of Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda
University, the monks, faculty, students, staff and others associated with the
University to communicate their thoughts on agriculture, rural development and
other related issues, based mainly on Swami Vivekananda’s vision. The thoughts
of several other great Indian thinkers and visionaries like Mahatma Gandhi,
Rabindranath Tagore are also included in this vehicle of communication which,
although simple in design and technique, is yet quite powerful to reach out to
thousands of our own countrymen who need to understand and assimilate these
ideas. Swami Vivekananda’s worldview was always integral, both in the spiritual
as well as in the so-called secular, although he himself made little
distinction between these two, for the integral vision of the Vedic seers and
sages, called rishis, literally those
who could have a direct vision of the integral Truth, on which Swami Vivekananda
based his own vision, was one of harmony, synthesis, integration and
amalgamation. Romain Rolland succinctly summarized Swami Vivekananda’s genius
in the following words: “In the two words equilibrium and synthesis, the whole
of Vivekananda’s constructive genius may be summed up. … He was the
personification of the harmony of all human energy.”
In the field of
agriculture and rural development too Swami Vivekananda emphasized an integral
approach. Our University bearing his hallowed name, therefore, termed its
Faculties in this field as “Integral Rural Development and Management” to which
our Faculty Centre at Narendapur in West Bengal is devoted, and “Integrated
Rural & Tribal Development and Management” to which our Faculty Centre at
Ranchi (Morabadi) is devoted. Our students of the Faculty Centre at Ranchi
(Morabadi) need to be particularly congratulated on their sustained effort to
bring out issues of the Krishika Devo
Bhava as an e-journal under the inspiration and guidance of the faculty
members at this Centre. The constant guidance and inspiration provided by Swami
Bhaveshanandaji, presently Secretary of this Centre and Administrative Head of
the Ranchi (Morabadi) Centre, are particularly praiseworthy. May this effort,
however humble and small in dimension, impact hundreds of our own countrymen to
awaken to the immense importance of our farmer brethren who are toiling
silently and joyfully to feed the more than a billion population of our vast
and complex country that has lived in peace and harmony for thousands of years
basing itself on the integral vision of our rishis
and men of God in the various other religions that have become an integral
part of our country’s heritage and culture.
Swami
Atmapriyananda
